Hey guys, CLINIQUE will be here in IMU on Monday, 27th of February for a roadshow. They will be setting up a booth at the atrium on Monday. Skin care consultation will be provided by Clinique Experts.

There will be a Grooming Talk Session as well at LT3. The talk includes skin care and make up tips and trends. The timings for the workshop are 11.45 am and 2.30pm. Those attending the workshop will be given free door gifts.

Beware: con man!

Recently I have 2 students reporting to student services that they have been cheated on rental money at Vista Komanwel.

The scenario would be a girl (by the name of Sharon, claiming to IMU student but now is no longer our student, with HP no.: 016 884 3802) sending out an advert to say there is a room available. The room looks very good, therefore the potential student will like it and will be asked to bank in their rental to

One student was asked to bank in 6 months rental. Therefore, she lost all her money. This girl moved in to the room already and 1 week later, the owner came to ask her to leave.

Please disseminate this information to all students for them to be careful. I think students should be alerted that if the other party asking for so much money, they should be starting to query the person.

Volunteers for Communication Skills Workshop

Dear Students,

Clinical Sciences Division will be running a workshop on communication skills to the new students who just join us this week (ME1/12).

The workshop will be held on the following dates:

29/2/2012 2.00 - 5.00pm MPH 5

1/3/2012 2.00 - 5.00 pm MPH 5

We need approximately a total of 30 senior students (from Sem 2 – Sem 5) for both days to help us facilitate the activities in the workshop.

It would be a great opportunity for you to pick up some insight in patient-doctor communication and strengthen your knowledge in this area.

For those of you who volunteer to make this workshop a success, our Dean of Medical Science will issue certificate of appreciation to you for all the hard work you have put in.

Selangor State Government Education Loan

The Selangor State Government invites eligible students who are pursuing higher education at the local public and private higher learning institutions to apply for the education loans for the year 2012.

a) Eligibility for Application

Only Malaysian students born in Selangor or one of the parents born in Selangor. Otherwise proof from ADUN/Penghulu/Pengerusi JKKK/Ketua Kampung that you have stayed or lived in Selangor for more than 5 years.
Only for local programmes.
Priority to students who are not holding or receiving other financial assistance.
Students with good academic achievement and currently not in the last year of studies.

b) Application Deadline : 29 February 2012.

c) Value of Award : RM7,000 (medicine) per year / RM6,500 (for other programmes) per year

d) Application Procedure

Application is online. Official website – http://tkwbns.selangor.gov.my
Completed online application must be printed as hard copy to obtain endorsement from certain authorities. The hard copy and the supporting documents must also be submitted to the Selangor State Government Office latest by the application deadline.
All applications must be accompanied by all required supporting documents in accordance with the checklist in the application form by ticking (√) in the relevant boxes.
All photocopied documents must be certified true copy by any government officers (Category A/Management & Professional)/Principal/Headmaster only.
Declaration letter on residency (if applicant/father/mother of applicant was not born in Selangor)
Declaration letter on income (if applicant/father/mother of applicant is not working/retired/self-employed) must be endorsed by ADUN/Penghulu/Pengerusi JKKK/Ketua Kampung only.
Incomplete applications, either incomplete details or incomplete supporting documents, will not be entertained.
Applicants can check their application status online one month after the application deadline.

University Day and Health Awareness Day 2012

In 2012, IMU celebrates its 20th Anniversary, the theme is “Celebrating 20 years of Excellence and Innovation in Education”, University Day will be on 2nd March 2012 (Friday, 8.15am to 5.30pm) and Health Awareness Day will be on 3rd March 2012 (Saturday, 8.15am to 3.00pm) in the BUKIT JALIL Campus.

Both days will be celebrated by all staff and students. ALL are expected to attend the above events to enrich your experience in IMU. The academic calendar will incorporate details of celebrations on both days, please mark your diaries!

Some of the highlights would be:

Carnival and Charity Run

IMU plans to have the Carnival and Charity Run event on 22nd September 2012, as part of the 20th Anniversary celebrations. With this regards, the committee members felt that it would be very valuable to get suggestions from students on their choice of activity too (in case you would prefer having “IMU next top model” rather than the run, or any other event that you would be more enthusiastic to be involved).

Based on your suggestions, we could accordingly plan the event, as this is a combined collaborative event involving all cohorts in all programmes. Hence, we look forward to hearing your views and comments. Kindly post this message on all the programmes’ blogs and facebook pages so that they are aware, and can give a feedback. We hope to take a decision by the 1st week of March 2012, and start planning the activities.

PPD Workshop

Hey everyone! Dr Nilesh is looking for students to help him in a PPD workshop.

The workshop is from 10.30am to 12.30pm (27th Feb), 8am-12pm (28th Feb) and 8am - 12pm (29th Feb).

You don't have to be there for the entire time for each day, as we have lectures. However, after lectures, you have to join the Sem 1s.

Basically, you have to facilitate them in putting up a skit for the PPD workshop for foundation students, regarding the 4 IMU themes (professionalism, team work etc). Certificates will be awarded for this!

It is on the 28th - 29th February 2012. Interested students should elect a leader and then compile the list of people. The name list should be submitted to him (via e-mail) before 15th February.

A briefing will be done on the 27th of February for those students.

Dr Nilesh mentioned that those who applied for the post of anatomy demonstrator should meet him together on the 13th of February.

Irish Medical Council

Kindly be informed that the Irish Medical Council is coming on the 14-15 February 2012 to assess the medical programme conducted at Phase 1 in the IMU.

Book vouchers

Dear students,

The Student Services Department (SSD) have collected the book vouchers worth rm 200 from the Ministry of Higher Education. They will be distributing the vouchers to the students starting next week, Monday, 16th of January. Only batches that are around in IMU will receive their vouchers first. The rest would have to wait for once you're back from holidays. Each batch will have a SPECIFIC TIME and DATE to collect their vouchers from the SSD.

This arrangement is done to ensure all students receive their vouchers and also its the best possible way to hand out vouchers to the students. Every voucher has a serial number. The serial number of the voucher which each student receives has to be recorded and submitted back to the Ministry of Higher Education.

There is an expiry date which is the 31st of March 2012. Even if you have not received your vouchers yet, please start looking for which books you would like to purchase and then you could get them straight away once you have the vouchers in hand.

Ms Khairun also mentioned that only 2 houses (one for the guys' house and one for the girls' hostel) from Group B claimed their keys.
It is pretty impossible to squeeze the whole group into 2 houses,
and so she says she will be in IMU tomorrow (10.00am to 10.30am) just so that you guys could collect your keys.
Please please get at least one person from each house to go claim those keys. You really need a place to sleep.

Lastly, just a reminder,
I wouldnt say you are required to bring your laptops, but apparently they have planned for you guys to do a presentation or something on the first day afternoon..
for those who are bringing your laptops to KKB, please bring it with you to the hospital on the first day.

Hey everybody,

As part of refurbishing the library with new furniture, the library will be CLOSED from Friday 18th nov.' 2011 till Monday 20th nov.' 2011.

ON FRIDAY THE LIBRARY WILL CLOSE FROM 3PM ONWARDS.

The vendors basically need a day for setting up the new furniture along with an additional 2 days to clean and dispose off the previous furniture.

1) De'Brio will be operating at the Lower Ground Floor although the library cafe is closed.

2) Books that are due on Saturday and Sunday can be returned as the librarian will be present.

3) Students are advised not to use the lifts opposite student lounge as it will be used for moving the furniture up.

In an effort to learn more about students' satisfaction on the level of services provided through the IMU Support Facilities, the IMU conducted an annual Student Satisfaction Survey to find out students' opinions on the amenities and aids offered to them. Your responses will be used to help us better understand the issues regarding the services you find most significant to be improved.

Survey answers will of course, be kept confidential but the aggregated results will help us improve the overall way we assist the students.

New Student Lounge hours

Dear Students of IMU,

The SRC and SSD are glad to inform you that with effective 3rd November 2011 the Student Lounge Opening Hours will be extended to 2am. This is only applicable to Thursday’s, Friday’s, Saturday’s and Sunday’s. As for the remaining days, the Student Lounge will close at 12am.

This arrangement is only for a trial period of ONE MONTH from Thursday, the 3rd of November until Sunday, the 4th of December. We still have to cross a few obstacles before this arrangement is made permanent. If we are able to follow the criteria during this trial period, then the Student Lounge will be permanently open until 2am on the four days as stated above.

The criteria are as listed below:

1) The Student Lounge will only be open until 2am on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

2) There must not be any damage to the equipment in the Student Lounge.

3) Only IMU STUDENTS are allowed to enter the Student Lounge especially on weekends.

4) Students should walk safely while walking back to Vista or their cars after 12.00 am onwards until 2 am and should not be harmed in any way while walking back during the trial period.

If any of these criteria are not adhered to during the trial period, this TEMPORARY arrangement will not be allowed to be made permanent and students will not be able to enjoy the benefits of extended Student Lounge opening hours.

So, students of IMU, the SRC has once again listened to your concerns and have acted upon them. Also I would like to stress on the importance on student safety once you guys leave the Student Lounge from 12am onwards, since it’s the main concern of the SRC and the SSD while agreeing to make this change and allow the trial period. Please try

to travel in packs or groups when leaving and STAY SAFE.

IMU Ball Has rolled around once again! And the new committee has to be formed. IMU Ball is traditionally held in early April, so the committee has to be confirmed by end of November the latest. The brief breakdown of the job scopes and positions available are as below. The President would normally be selected from 110 batch but it is open to all other batches and courses now as we feel it is more just. One thing to note is that only sem3 and above are eligible to apply for the posts, and includes pharmacy, n/d, dentistry, chiro, nursing students etc etc, not limited to medic. However, the junior students are encouraged to join the subcommittees such as decoration, PR. Those who apply will be interviewed and should more than one person apply for the position, the posts will be determined via voting by the batches involved. Standard Operating Procedure of the IMU Ball Committee

President

• Chairs committee meetings and makes important decisions with members’ approval
• Provide secretary with agendas for each upcoming meeting together with the vice presidents
• Discuss and prepare with the Treasurer the financial budget and the financial targets to be achieved by the Sponsorship Manager and Fundraising Managers with the Vice President (Admin)
• Allocation of duties
• Oversee actions of all committee members
• Conduct voting on all issues/ideas related to the IMU Ball (ie: venue, theme etc)
• Update SRC on IMU Ball’s activities

Vice President (Admin)

• Aid the president on matters concerning administration
• Verify the minutes, proposals, reports and letters prepared by Secretary before approval by the President
• Discuss and prepare with Treasurer on financial budget and the financial targets to be achieved by the Sponsorship Manager and Fundraising Managers with the President

• Designing (with aid of Head of Deco) and printing of booklets for the event proper

• Prepare a budget proposal for printing of booklets with approval by Treasurer
• Placement of participants in tables and prepare a map on the table arrangements

Treasurer

• Preparation of financial budget for proposal
• Discuss with SRC Treasurer and SAD for proposed budget
• Liaise with Sponsorship Manager and Fundraising Managers on financial matters
• Issue receipts to participants
• Collection of participation fees from participants

Ever noticed how nicely dressed your lecturers are? Or how approachable they can be? Were you ever left inspired after a particular lecture? Have you ever joked with a lecturer? Or got reprimanded by one? If these thoughts ever crossed your mind, then now's your chance to do something about it!

IMU Oscars is back again so that means, it's time to show our appreciation for our lecturers and their hard efforts in educating us. After paying Elearning Dept a visit, it seems they have prompted all the lecturers to upload their new notes but they have not received any response so far.
Our Repro Coordinator is unreachable for the moment.
For today's lecture, the history taking notes is up.
Dr NW's notes for tomorrow is also up.

Also for those who are going for their Clinic Visits tomorrow, do check here again later.
Transport will be provided but i m trying to confirm with them again just in case.
I'll only be given a definite answer after lunch.

Repro Notes

As you all can see, we have no new Repro notes yet. "No files have been uploaded to your course yet." There are old notes under the Lectures 2011 folder, but these are old notes. We will check with E-Learning early Monday morning to confirm whether these notes can be used, or whether there will be updated notes. PLEASE do not print yet! Save your printing cost.

We will let you guys know by noon on Monday. Lecture is at 5.15pm, and the lectures on Monday have no notes anyway (Introduction and History Taking).

Australia to ease visa rules to woo foreign students

The new changes, expected to be enforced from the second semester of 2012 in the Australian universities, follow a review of the student visa programme led by ex-New South Wales government minister Michael Knight, Press Trust of India reports.

Under the new rules, the financial requirements for student visas will be eased and applicants would need about A$36,000 less in their bank account than they do now.

And new post-study work visas will allow students to remain in Australia for two to four years after their course ends, depending on their level of qualification.

Basically they are conducting a survey and they need 60 volunteers to help.

Volunteers will be meeting with the lecturer for a session of about 30 mins+.

This is just a reminder.
If you r reading this, and you still have your report with you, its time to head to school lol.
You are to pass your report to your mentor for him/her to sign the IA form.
If you couldn't find your mentor, try getting the signature from any other lecturer who you are familiar with.
Some of the lecturers will hold onto your report and later submit for you, while others might require you to hand it in to AAD yourself.
Either way, do hurry up, your mentor was supposed to get your report on monday.

PTPTN officers will be coming to IMU to collect the loan documents from students on:

Date : 1 October 2011 (Saturday)

Time : 9.00 am – 1.00 pm

Venue : Auditorium

Students who have received the online approval need to download and fill up their documents plus the supporting documents which need to be certified true copy. These documents will be collected by the PTPTN officers on that day. The students can bring their documents to me for checking to ensure that they are complete and in order. You can also arrange a time slot and place with your batch mates for me to go and check the documents. This way would be easier.

Now that Orientation is almost over and everyone will be around for lectures,

It is time to get things sorted out next week.

First up is the election of a new treasurer.

Yes I m starting to feel i got too much in my hands and some help will really be appreciated.

Your responsibilities include handling all money issues, notes and helping out each other.

Secondly, it seems almost everyone is unhappy about sem 4, either one way or another.

Now is the time to voice it all out, not just by saying but with writing.

Write down all your complaints, black and white, make it clear and make it professional.

Pass it to me anytime next week and by the end of the week, i'll sort it out and do whatever i can accordingly.

When complaints are made, statistical facts does matter, the more the number the louder it will be.

Lastly, I just want to know if u guys would like to have a batch event like what we did last time..

It doesnt have to be sports, we just need something which everyone could join in and have fun..

if the answer is positive, this is the sem which we could organise something..

when next sem comes, all we'll be doing is nerding..

So pass me those complaints if you have any,

you can repeat what your friends have said, it will just make the point stronger.

Also think of who is the most suitable for the treasurer post, nominate him/her, or even better to volunteer..

And lastly, consider what to do for a batch event..

Hey guys, imu music and performance club is organising NOISE during the recruitment drive.It is basically a mini concert that provides stage for performers. Chinese songs and English songs are both allowed but more preferably english songs.( if u want, u can sing some tamil songs too!). So lets form a band and show the people of imu wad u got. If u need some guitarists ,bassists or even drummer, we will try to ask around for people to play for you.

Sorry that this is rather last minute, i just confirmed with AAD.
It seems today's session at 10.30am in E-Lab 1 is only for the first 34 students (A1 to D1) in the PBL groupings list.
The rest of us will be allotted into other time slots, which we'll be informed when it is ready.
