Hi guys,
I have some important news for you guys, especially those aiming for PMS in New Zealand. This message comes from our provost, Dr. Mei Ling Young.

Dear All,
Please be informed that University of Auckland and University of Otago will be leaving the PMS Consortium effective 2013 and 2012 respectively.
It was a difficult decision for both universities but they have to do it due to the pressure by the local government (Government of New Zealand) to increase their local intake for their medical programme.
For your information, Auckland has been with us since our IMC days. We have sent students to this university from 1996. Otago joined the Consortium in 2001. The first batch of students transferred to Otago in 2003. Both universities had received more than 300 students since then with Auckland receiving more than 80% of the 300 students.
Sadly, with Auckland and Otago leaving the Medical Consortium, we have completely lost all of New Zealand completely. However, Otago is still with us in Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nutrition and Dietetics. In time to come, Auckland may link with us in Pharmacy. Already, some of our students are going there for Semester 7 BPharm Research projects. Our links with both universities remain even though we will not send them medical students. Policies may change and we hope that Auckland and Otago can become medical partners again. Even without the transferring of medical students, we could still do other collaborations.
Students' exchange programmes, visiting lecturers, external examiners and other consultancy-type projects are some areas of possibilities that Auckland and IMU could still stay linked.
Thank you.
Regards,
Mei Ling Young
Provost
